Apple sells 500,000 iPad 2 in three days


New York, Mar 14: Market analysts reported that Apple managed to sell more than 500,000 iPad 2 tablets within three days of its launch. Apple kick started the sale of new Lighter, Faster and Thinner iPad 2 on Mar 11 in United States.

Citing Piper Jaffray Cos. analyst Gene Munster, Bloomberg reported that the weekend sale of iPad 2 surpassed 500,000 units and many of the retailers ran out of stock. Apple offered the new iPad 2 for grabs through more than 236 Apple Stores, Verizon, AT&T and retailers like BestBuy, Walmart, Target etc.

The Muster's report revealed that about 70 per cent of the iPad 2 buyers were first-time iPad buyers. The report suggests that Apple will continue its domination in the tablet market as the company managed to sell more than 15 million first version iPad, which controls 80 per cent tablet market share.

"Demand for the next-generation iPad has been amazing and we are working hard to get iPad 2 into the hands of every customer who wants one as quickly as possible," said Trudy Muller, a spokeswoman for Apple.

The new iPad 2 is more lighter than the first version. It has a dual core A5 processor, which is nine times faster than the old version. The Apple iPad 2 also offers one camera at rear which is capable of recording 720p HD video and a secondary camera at front for video calling through FaceTime.

The second generation iPad 2 runs on Apple's new operating system, iOS 4.3 which has the features like Personal Hotspot, iTunes Home Sharing, AirPlay enhancements, faster Safari web browser etc. Apple also offered an attractive price tag for the new iPad 2.abuiyad
